so instead of having the base strings as any color, can't you use the colors in the pattern as base strings so you don't have to worry about changing colors and doesn't it make it less messy at the back? sorry im new at alpha bracelets

Hi, yes you can do that. If an alpha pattern has only two colors, you can use the base strings to make the knots of the second color. If there are more colors, you can also replace one of them by using the base strings instead of a leading string but then you'll also need regular leading strings for the other colors.
