I def know about alpha wallhangings, but I have been seeing more and more normal wallhangings which are just normal patterns with more than 30 strings for example. my question is, how would you attach the strings for the pattern onto a dowel if two strings in a row are not the same? sorry if that doesn't make sense. hopefully u guys can help! tysm ❤️

check out alex’s innovations on turning normals into keychains. it’s the same principle.

If the normal pattern is symmetrical you can still use larks head knots but basically use one string for the left side then the other string for its mirrored version on the right.

So you would make a larshead knot onto the middle of the dowel for the two strings in the very center of the pattern. Then you would take the second colour that is used for the strings on either side of the middle ones and make another larkshead knot but sort of pull apart the two strings onto either side of the middle strings. Then you would repeat that process for the next set of strings all the way until you have attached all of them.

For instance if you were using pattern #18 (I know it's small but I'm just using it as an example) then you would first take colour F and do just a regular larks head knot to create the 6th and 7th string. Then you take colour E and make a larks head knot encasing the first one so that the two sides come out either side like it is shown in the pattern, attaching the 5th and 8th string. Do the same then for colours D, C, B and A.

I hope that helps! 😅❤️

I gave a somewhat description of the technique I use in the comment section for #39708
