String length?

I don't know how to overcome this problem I have of never being able to guess the length of strings needed! I generally make all my strings the same length on normal patterns but with alpha patterns I find it difficult to guess the sizes.
I use longer strings than needed because I don't want them to be too short so I have to tie another string on to make it longer. Are there any general tips or hints on how to estimate the length of string needed or is it just trial and error?

For the record, I've only made 7 or 8 bracelets so far, I'm a beginner 🙂

Try wrapping the strings five or six times around your wrist, that should be a good estimate. If im wrong and its too short, you can always tie on a new string to the too short one, put a bit of nail polish or glue on it, and then cut off the excess string. That works for me!

For my alphas i tie the string 4 times around my wrist + the string i use for endings. The string has never been too short, but i do have quite a small wrist so i make smaller bracelets

Okay then! I'll probably have to tie the string 5 or 6 times round my wrist because I make bracelets for my family, including my dad who has massive wrists 😛

Thanks for the tips guys, you've been a great help! 😄

I normally stretch the string from my fingers to the top of my arm (almost the shoulder). That's normally enough with a little bit extra for tying and finishing the ends

hey Fenix, i'm only a beginner as well but i've been making bracelets for ages and I find that if you wrap the string 8 times around your wrist and leave a little extra cuz i always have plenty extra when i'm finished. good luck!😄

For normal bracelets, I usually use half my armspan. But if you look at a pattern, and can tell which colors are going to be used more, you might want to make those longer, and the colors that won't be used as much, you could make those a few inches shorter.

I think alphas should be long. I MAKE MY MAIN STRING FROM MY HEEL TO MY HIP. I'M PRETTY SHORT THOUGH BUT IT'S REALLY GOOD FOR ME! THE regular strings I make about half to two thirds of that.

I hate when my strings get tangled up so I never cut crazy long pieces of string for a bracelet. Instead I add more string by tying another piece on if I run out. If you get really good at hiding the knot that is created from this you will neveR be able to tell that more string has been added. Also, then I don't end up wasting any string.

I use about 100 centimeters per string (for long bracelet)

I usually wrap the string 2-3 times from my palm around my elbow. The more strings a pattern has, or the more a string is used in a pattern, the longer it has to be

It depends. Depending on the bracelet size, make the string bigger.
