Hello! I was wondering if anyone had any good brands for glittery string. The one I currently use keeps fraying and falling apart. It is also stiff and hard to tie with. New types and brand suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

That’s a pretty typical issue to have with metallic strings. Most people suggest putting a small knot at the end of the string you’re tying with. Otherwise, I know some people use thin yarn with just a strand or two of sparkle in it. It would likely fray less but idk what brands they’re using...

@Margaron thanks for the yarn idea! I might have to look for some of that

I also saw someone split their regular embroidery floss once and add a single metallic thread in and wind it back together again but I feel like that’s a LOT of work for a subtle sparkle.

Ok I'm not sure how many people look back on these for help, but I went to Michael's recently and found this crochet thread that's really thin and kind of like craft cord. It's metallic gold and much, much easier to work with than the DMC metallic thread. It has a singular thread of metallic gold wound around a non-metallic yellowish gold thread. The brand I used is called Aunt Lydia's and it gives it just a little satisfying sparkle.

Hi!!! I’m not that familiar with that many brands, I’m not sure what brand I received my metallic string from because I received a bunch for Christmas. What works for me is tying a little knot at the end while you’re working on the bracelet, and then cutting it off at the end when you tie it to your wrist/ sell / etc. let me know if this helps!

I take a single strand of glittery thread and knot it in with normal embroidery thread it’s a really nice subtle sparkle

With strings that fray easily I normally tie a knot at the end of the string to hold it together

Make sure you use crochet thread or a 1 or 2 weight yarn 🙂

I use sparkly crochet thread from Micheals, but I've seen some sparkly DMC threads too!

I use the DMC metallic thread, and love the way it looks! It can be a struggle to work with because it separates very easily. To fix this, I keep a lighter in my string box and melt the end of the string together to keep it from unraveling. This seems to fix the problem for me.

I use the DMC metallic thread, and I’ve had a lot of issues with it unraveling as well. What I’ve done is tied a small knot at the very end of the thread, and it’s helped for the most part!

Also, that thread is a bit thinne than embroidery floss, but it still works wonderfully for both normal and alpha patterns. Just thought i'd point that out 🙂.
