start with patterns that have a lot of diamonds or strips or just long stretches ig of forward or backward knots. those patterns are easy to seg knot

@Birte HI! To be honest, I am HORRIBLE at segment knotting. I'm not sure if it still counts as segment knotting or something else, but I sometimes knot in V formations. It gets a lot done quicker than row by row. Basically I find all the V's in the pattern (so from the first know of row 1 and the last knot of row one and work diagonally until they meet). I hope my explanation made sense but if not let me know and I can go into further detail! Hope this helps!

@Birte no problem! I'm glad to help! If you know how to do a teardrop loop, this is a great pattern to start trying out the V method ( #31525 ). It's really easy to make and if you have ANY questions or need help feel free to let me know!

Try to follow chevrons and candystripes while segment knotting. It makes it easier.

Defo follow the advice to start w stripes / chevrons so that you can get the hang of knotting - i think that'll help you be able to pinpoint them in more complex patterns. You can also screenshot / print your patterns and draw a circle around the string you're knotting so you don't get lost, helps a lot w/ thicker bracelets😊

Try to locate segments of the same colour that can be knotted in 'one go'. Keep in mind that sometimes other knots have to be done first for your segment to work.Segment knotting is a matter of mind. You need to 'see' which segments to knot next and practice can improve your skills a lot. If you want, you can get some short insta-practice every now and then by just looking at patterns and locating which knots to do first, what comes next etc. Start with easy patterns, like #1. If you want to knot it exactly like the pattern, why do you start at the upper right corner? Why not in the middle or on the left upper corner? What's next? Continue like this with different patterns, increasing in difficulty. This should work like a charm. Besides that, knotting a bracelet every now and then and actually really doing what you've practiced helps of course as well. 🙂 |

What i found helpful when i was learning to seg knot was to print out the pattern and then to annotate it and make it easier for me to see the easy shapes like V, /, \ and things like that

For complex patterns the trick I use is printing out the pattern and outlining segments in advance, putting the paper in these plastic divider things (used them for math notes previously haha), then as I knot I mark off the sections with a whiteboard marker. (I struggle with focusing and this really helps me!)
