Hello! I was curious about a certain problem that can occur when you make alphas, and how to fix it. Here’s a hypothetical,
Say you were making an alpha, and you were knotting along fine until you came to an edge were the next knot in the new row, was a different colour. You were using the straight edges technique.

How would you colour switch?

in this situation, i just skip using the straight edge technique for that one knot. i'm assuming you know about this, but if the straight edge technique is used on a last knot colorswitch, the previous string color will stick out of the side and show, which doesn't look right. so for that one knot, i'll just do a normal knot, and it still looks fine in the overall pattern. usually, you can't even tell.

Here's a video that shows how it can be done: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6eRTOWtHlU

@OwObama I think you might be mixing up the straight edge technique and the flat alpha technique. The flat alpha technique is when you tuck the previous leading string inside the first knot of the new leading string. The straight edge technique is when you do fb knots on the right edge and bf knots on the left edge

To do the color switch you’re describing @Lou_22, finish the row with an fb knot, then pull the leading string up and behind the bracelet by pulling it between the last two knots of the row. Then you can just make an fb knot with the new color to start the next row. This is all assuming that the switch is happening after a row of forward knots. If it’s happening after a row of backward knots, do bf knots instead of fb knots

Masha knots has a tutorial on this, when using the flat edge technique, you will simply knot the second to last knot, then you will tuck that string under the last base string and do a forward-backward/backward-forward (depends if you are going left or right) with the new color. You will not put the old color in between the new color, as it will poke out the edge. If this is to confusing I would really recommend Masha’s video, it is called “COLOR CHANGES ON ALPHA EDGES [CC] || Friendship Bracelets” hope this helped! 😁
