So I’ve got a bunch of metallic thread that I think looks SO pretty, but it frays all the way up, and it gets so hard to get the knots tight enough! Does anyone have any good tips for using metallic thread? 🧵🧵🧵

I’ve never actually used metallic thread, but it could help to tie a knot at the end of the string to keep it from fraying

I put a piece of tape around it and push it down as I need more. The stickiness helps it not fray as much

I would suggest to use thread conditioner on the string. It makes it easier to use you can buy one called “thread magic” on Amazon or just a regular white candle and what you do if hold the string against the candle using your thumb and then pull the string through it against the candle a couple of times. Just be careful not to do it a lot otherwise pieces of the wax can get stuck to the thread. And then just tie a knot at the end of the string to prevent it from coming apart. Hope this helps!

Here are some tips with metallic thread! (From my struggles with the metallic thread XD) My first tip is to always make a super tiny knot at the ends of the metallic thread, it prevents it from tangling with the other threads and makes it easier to knot with. My second tip is try to organize the metallic thread by keeping it in the skein (original package) and slowly pull the thread out. Putting metallic thread on a bobbin can be a mess sometimes and the shiny coating tends to make the thread slip everywhere on the bobbin. My third tip is don’t be afraid to try different brands! I’ve used grocery store embroidery floss and it actually frayed a lot less than regular metallic floss. Different brands have different colors, textures and fraying levels and it’s great to find one that’s meant for you! My fourth tip is don’t over knot with the metallic thread, it tends to cut where the thread rubs against your finger and it can hurt a lot. Metallic thread is a lot stiffer then regular thread and it can irritate your skin. My final tip is... have fun! It’s so much fun using metal ice thread in your bracelets! Hope this helps and happy knotting! ☺️💕💕

I use my metallic string by pulling apart the individual strands and combining it with normal embroidery floss. It makes the bracelet sparkly without making the knotting process hard.
