Do you mean the base strings? Masha Knots has a video on wall hanging alphas and around minute 8 she shows you how to attach the base strings to the wooden dowel.https://youtu.be/qkAAwgnkWEo |

@OwObama no the other string that you would use to hang it from a hook or nail

Oooh ok got it. I usually just make a loop, like literally just a circle of string unattached to anything else. Then I hook it around either side of the wooden dowel and can hang it like an ornament. The string ends up sitting against the back of the alpha horizontally. Does that make sense?

Let's call the string we're using to hang the alpha the "hanging string". I don't knot my hanging string to the wooden dowel or the alpha pattern at all. They're completely separate. So grab some thread, and tie one knot in it so that it's a circle shape, almost like how a hairband would look like lying on a table. Once you have the circle of thread, the "hanging string", you take it and put one side of the wooden dowel through the circle. Then, you put the other side of the wooden dowel through the circle, and pull up on the top of the hanging string so that it makes a triangle shape at the top, and you're done. Since there's no knots attaching the hanging string to the wooden dowel, the back of the alpha will be in contact with part of the hanging string. If you don't understand, try using an actual hairband or rubber band once the alpha is finished and just play around with the band and the wooden dowel until you get something like I've described. When hanging, the hanging string should just look like an actual triangle from the back of the alpha, bottom of the triangle and all. It's kind of difficult to explain without a visual representation. |
