trouble with wall hangings

i'm having a ton of trouble with getting my background color knots even... when i make alphas without a dowel, i have no problem, but with the dowel all of my knots are so uneven, even if i tie them with the same exact technique. my floss is also DMC, which i haven't worked with. can anyone help me with this?

make sure that all of your strings are the same thicknesses. that can effect the knot sizes if they’re different thicknesses. masha knots has a tutorial on her youtube channel that shows how to make wall hangings. she also has one on how to make better alphas so i recommend watching those.

Remember to make your first knot tighter than your second, to get a good foundation. Pushing your knots up with a ruler at the end of each row, can help align them. Remember practice makes perfect!
