Hi everyone, so as the title suggests I absolutely hate my alphas. I’ve been making alphas consistently for about ten months and I use the flat alpha and straight edges technique. I always use the same brand of string. At this point it feels like I’ve tried everything to improve them. I’ve watched practically every alpha video on YouTube. I’ve tried loosening my knots, tightening my knots, using a ruler and literally everything else I could think of. My main issue is keeping my edges straight. No matter how many different ways I approach the edges know by tightening or loosening it always looks wonky. I try to keep my knot tension consistent but they still look awful.Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you 😊 |

Hey there, I had the same problem when I first started. I would suggest trying an alpha with less colour switches and maybe 4-5 colours. Make sure your satisfied and comfortable with that work before you move on. That way when your comfortable, you've got a goal to work towards! I noticed you said the straight edges technique wasn't working, try dropping it and again, picking it up again when your more comfortable. Make sure the first half you your knot is tight, the second half looser. When you make your knots, pulling on the base string wherever the problem is, can help a lot! I wish you good luck, and remember to persevere! 🙂 👍

imma say from ur most recent pictures ur knots are still a little tight, so maybe try loosening a little more? also i’ve noticed that tracking the knots on the edges and seeing how they slant also helps with how straight the edges are.

Hey your butterfly bracelets looks great. I think the problem is that you white deleting a are either pulling on the edges which is making them wonky or your knot tension.

I looked at your pictures. They are awesome! One thing you could try is cutting the string that goes around the color changes. Using your butterfly alpha as an example. Cut your white string when you are completely done, and that should cause less tension and pulling, which will hopefully make your edges straighter.

i just looked at your pictures and your alphas look really great! the way i keep my edges pretty straight and not wonky, whenever i tie the edge i will push it up w my finger and sometimes i pull the bast string to adjust it to the rest of the edges if it makes any sense, i hope i make sense lol. also it’s all about how tight you make them, ik yoi

ik you mentioned about the tension but i guess it takes practice? bc the tension is usually what shapes the edges

I struggle with the same thing, but I looked at your pictures and your alphas look beautiful, but since I also make bracelets I know that it is easy to notice flaws no one else can see on your bracelet. I know this probably wasn’t very helpful, but I’m trying to say that they actually look good.
