Bumpy alpha edges/ uneven-crescent looking lines

So I've been working with alphas a lot lately and one thing ive noticed is that even with the straight edge/ flat tech is that the side strings seem to always be higher then the other center ones. As the pattern continues it just seems to get worse and worse. (ive tried pushing it up with a ruler but that has its maximums). Eventually the bracelet becomes a crescent rather than straight horizontal lines. And the sides look messy and not smooth. -When I work on the sides I have to pull it relatively tight to avoid holes. Is there a way to fix these issues?!?! |

The only tip I could give would be to try to loosen up your knots so that there’s less tension in the bracelet. The reason you can’t push it the rows up with a ruler is probably because the knots are too tight. You could also try to cut the strings that are pulling on each other on the back of your alpha to try and get rid of some of that tension

you also might be pulling too much on the far right and left base strings. that could also be why, so yeah what oceanknot said, losing up your knots and try not to pull too much in just the side strings. and if you need to try to pull a bunch at once, if that makes sneee

You might be forgetting knots at the edges. Since both the first and the last knot of each row get replaced you always need to make two bf knots on the left and two fb knots on the right. If you do only one, you basically have only half a knot per row and that leads to the rows curving up and you needing to pull extra hard at the edges to avoid gaps.

Halokiwi, so you’re saying I have to do a fb knot on the last base strings THEN another fb on the same string before switching directions? If so that’s genius.

Can anyone make a video on how to make straight edges because in the Masha Knots one she doesn’t show you so I’m a little confused.

@NYC_ girl13 I can't make a video but i can explain it here. The basic thing is that on the edges you will make fb and bf knots instead of forward and backwards so in a normal alpha the structure would be like thisf f f f f f f f f bbbbbbbbb f f f f f f f f f bbbbbbbbb But using the straight edge technique you'd change the knots on the edges doing fb on the right and bf on the left, the structure would be like this Bf f f f f f f f fb Bf bbbbbbb fb Bf f f f f f f f fb Bf bbbbbbbb fb Always remembering that on the edge you'll have to make two knots that are the same, so if you reach the right you'll make one fb for the row you are finishing and another fb for the row you are starting, then just do backward knots to continue the row to the left, when you reach the end on the left, two bf knots and you continue to the right, and so on. I hope this makes sense! |
