Hello! I was wondering how I would do a double start for an alpha with an odd number of base strings. It would be 43 strings and I can’t find any videos. Help?

I'm unsure if you want to make a loop or not.

One of your starts has to have 22 base strings and the other 21.

If you want to make a loop you take 21 strings double the length and fold them in half. For the 22nd base string on one side you take the end of the leading string. The other end of the leading string you can use as the leading string you start knotting with on the 21 string side. For the 22 string side you have to put a new leading string.

If you are using the technique where you make triangle ends the same way you would in normal patterns I recommend 21 base strings double the length folded in half to make 42 base strings and one base string double the length but split in half for the 43rd base string. Masha knots has a video on making a loop with an odd number of strings for normal patterns that should be helpful in this case.

@halokiwi yes I want to make a loop, I know how to make like the double start but I don’t know how to incorporate the left out string.

I'm not sure what you mean by left out string.

Are you doing the technique where you knot in rows or the one where you knot like in a normal pattern?

@halokiwi I’m doing it as if it’s a normal pattern (I haven’t seen any other way? Let me know if there’s an easier way) and I understand how to do it with even strings but the 43 string is were I’m confused. Like how do I use that in the start?

As I previously said "If you are using the technique where you make triangle ends the same way you would in normal patterns I recommend 21 base strings double the length folded in half to make 42 base strings and one base string double the length but split in half for the 43rd base string. Masha knots has a video on making a loop with an odd number of strings for normal patterns that should be helpful in this case."

Here is the video I mentioned that describes how you can do it https://youtu.be/_IyGiKsjNJM

If you want to try the row by row technique for the triangle ends here is a video on that as well https://youtu.be/8-Yr8IBFvNY

This is what I said about the row by row technique "If you want to make a loop you take 21 strings double the length and fold them in half. For the 22nd base string on one side you take the end of the leading string. The other end of the leading string you can use as the leading string you start knotting with on the 21 string side. For the 22 string side you have to put a new leading string."

I should have probably considered that you don't know both techniques. My answer was probably a little confusing 😅
