Gaps in multi colored alphas

I know about making sure to add the previous color into the new knot with the new color. I generally tie my knots loosely. Would tying the knots tighter make the gaps go away? Any tips or tricks to prevent gaps?

Tying tighter may be helpful, but are you weaving the strings that arenโt base strings over the non-base strings? That would be my guess
