Try pulling the knots a little tighter, it should reduce the size. On the ends try doing the backwards forward knots twice on the same string, again making as tight as possible.

@Wahlenpup thanks for help! i was already doing the straight edge technique, but my knots are probably a little extra loose because i'm trying flat alphas for the first time. i think it also might be affected by different size string. do you know how to fix that?

it's all about making the knots the same tightness throughout. taping it down so it doesn't move back and forth will also help a lot.

Hi, I would suggest using the same brand of string. That way, they are of the same thickness, and the pattern will tend not to puff up. Also, keeping your knots loose will really help. I tried that, and my alphas improved a lot, and they became much flatter. 😄

@clar I would probably just tie them looser. 🙂

Or maybe try to push them inward with your nails. Making the tension looser around the edges is a great way to keep the sides even.

Since this is your first flat alpha, I wouldn't worry about it too much right now. You'll improve with time and experience 😊

Haha, I have the opposite problem, my alphas shrink up as I make them. 😛 But I would just recommend tightening your knots, and if you are using the flat alpha technique, just be extra cautious when doing color switches.
