I've watched MashaKnots' (@raccoon) tutorial on how to make straight alphas and it worked, but I didn't understand how to do a knot at the edge of the bracelet (on the very right or left). All the alpha photos I see have super straight edges even if they have those "edge knots", but I have no idea how to do it. Can someone help? Thanks!

You simply don't use the flat alpha switch on the edges.

Have you watched masha’s video about the flat alpha technique? It may help you, she went through how to do a colour switch on the edge briefly 🙂

The technique MashaKnots has used in the video is the straight-edges technique. Basically you replace all knots on the left edge with bf knots and on the right edge with fb knots. I've written a tutorial on it that might be helpful. https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/101_the-straight-edges-technique/

Alex's innovations video on flat alphas and special cases tells you how to do colour switches on the edge. This is the link https://youtu.be/sIUWg15EUIo

@_lauren_ you are most likely forgetting the second bf or fb knot. Since you replace both the first and the last knot of each row you need to make two bf or fb knots right after each. One knot is the last knot of the previous row and one knot is the first knot of the new row.

@SheWolf430To do a colour switch at the edge you need to do a regular colour switch instead of the flat alpha colour switch. If you do the flat alpha colour switch the old leading string will stick out at the edge. MashaKnots explains this towards the end of her video. Don't forget that you always need to make two bf or fb knots right after each other. Many people forget the second knot which leads to an edge that is wonky and the inability to make two knots of different colours. |
