Making an Alpha: “Back side” is beautiful straight boxes, weaving side is wavy whoosh lines- HELP

Quick backstory: Years ago I learned the Candy Stripe pattern and then the Chevron or whatever it’s called lol. Didn’t make more than a few.
I saw those awesome Moon Phase bracelets and decided I’d make my sister one for xmas this year. It looks chewed up but for a first attempt Alpha, I’m happy about it!!

Anyway I got wild about all the cool patterns and am working on a 2 squirrels with mushroom one.
It requires rows of white for the background and I’m still on that part but I noticed the “front” side I am weaving has like a zig-zag pattern of bumpy knots while the back side is super straight square-like boxy knots.
I want the squirrel images/colors to be straight and flat on the boxy side but that’s not the side I’m weaving on. So what exactly is going on!?
Can I just flip the bracelet and weave on the back side or will it start to create the wavy like flow of knots again?
I recognize, since it’s an alpha, the back side will be junked.

I just want to know why the front side I’m weaving on is so wavy and the back is so beautiful.
If anyone has video links to help explain that, I’m ever the more grateful!!

Also if I can somehow add pics to help explain myself, please direct me how to. Super new to the site.
Hope this makes sense and Merry Christmas to everyone!!

This is actually a xmas gift I’m trying to get done by tomorrow too of course... LOL

Hi, you can change the picture of the bracelet to your profile pic. Just go to your account, and select "change avatar" on the top right corner. I will probably be able to understand what's going on better then 🙂. Also, can you tell me the pattern no.? Thanks!

I think what you might want to do is an upside down alpha. @Margaron has a really good video on it https://youtu.be/pEcqSy_ZVk4
The video is also posted to pattern #33464

There are two ways you can do an upside-down alpha.

The first way would be like described in the video. You make the knots differently. Instead of crossing the leading string in front of the base string when making knots you cross it behind the base string. It will make more sense if you watch the video.

The second way is to knot like you usually would but instead of making colour switches behind the bracelet you make them in front of the bracelet.

I’ll make the wavy part my pic right now! Great idea, thanks!

Adorable!!
I’m about to check out the video, I think that may be what is going on!! Thank you Knot Master (forgot to look for your username lol)

Halokiwi yes this is exactly what I’m talking about!!
Can you explain in a little more detail about making color switches in front of the bracelet and not behind it??
Also do the “more professional” or cleaner looking alphas usually knot on the boxy side vs the wavy?
I guess it’s all opinion, but what is more common??

THANKS SO MUCH & MERRY CHRISTMAS!! 🎄 ❤️

Your bracelet actually looks really neat so far!! The side you showed in the picture is the front, that's the side that the design is on ( unless of course you're doing the technique @halokiwi was talking about )

Usually when making a colour switch you would put the old leading strings behind the bracelet, but if you just put them in front of the bracelet and knot otherwise normal the "backside" will have your desired look and won't look messy.

Personally I'd recommend doing the other technique (the one described in the video) because you can see better what you are doing and it's more likely to get smoother.

It’s done!! I posted it under the pattern in the photo. It has an orange mushroom since my friend loves the color orange! Thanks for all the help guys! I’m going to be working on this pattern next for my friend: #45378

Going to try to figure out how many and what exactly the color of all her birds are... or just stick to the pattern sonce this will only be my 3rd alpha attempt. 😅
Also you bracelet making people have a level of patience and determination that astounds me. There is a lot of love in this squirrel bracelet but there is also a lot of anger! I swore so much making this thing LOL.
Also I basically did the method that was like making it upside down... probably didnt help. Plus sugar detoxing and heart ache LOL.
