Help with pattern #50000

So i wanted to make #50000 on a dowel but the pattern starts from the short side, so the snake would come out sideways. I thought of turning it and look at the grid but then there would be 72 base strings and i never did anything that big and i'd probably miscount all the time. I also thought of making it and then attach it to the dowel how i want it but i'd have to use glue or nail polish and risk ruining it. Sorry for how long it is 😂 what should i do?

I would probably do it how you said, and attach the side with less strings to the dowel, because then you would only have 38 base strings. If you do it like that, though, the design would be sideways but you could put the dowel in a flower pot or a pencil jar and make the design like a flag. idk if this helps, but that's what I would do.
