final products stretched horizontally

hi, first time posting! I've been making a lot of alphas recently and I notice that my finished pieces always look like they've been stretched vertically. any tips for not letting this happen/keeping my knots wider horizontally? I usually tie pretty snug, my thread isn't elastic and tugging the finished piece horizontally doesn't do much to correct it.

Try playing around with the knot tension, sometimes tying alphas a little looser keeps them from looking crammed in one direction and stretched in the other. Otherwise, it could just be a common flaw in the patterns you enjoy doing. My alphas tend to look stretched if I'm working on a very detailed pattern of something.

I see in videos people pushing up rows with a ruler that may help a bit
