Who else hates the 2 strand thread that's kind of twisted together? I think it looks kind of cheap and I don't like the texture. I'll only use six strand thread for my bracelets. Does anyone have a brand recommendation? I use DMC but I'm starting to realize it's actually kind of expensive for embroidery thread...

I have never heard of 2 strand threads but honestly I don't even know the brands I'm using at the moment as my mom got a huge box full of skeins for $5 on kijiji. Those threads are all nice though. I also own some skeins from a package at Walmart and a pile of crochet thread but I do agree dmc can be pretty expensive and is more expensive than most threads. I also experiment with bakers twine and different threads that i find at different stores and stuff. My best recommendation though is the starry nights lion brand of crochet thread. 🙂

Are u talking about Loops and threads? I prefer Anchor thread. It doesn't split as much as DMC

@ananya123 Loops and threads is one brand that does 2 stranded thread. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely have to check out the thread you mentioned. I sometimes get cheaper thread off amazon, but it's often thicker than DMC and I kinda like how thin the DMC kind is because it makes my bracelets look better in my opinion.

I think you're talking about craft-cord. I think that it's okay, but only if you only use that type of thread in the bracelet. If you try and use regular thread with craft-cord, it just messes up the bracelet because craft-cord makes smaller knots. I like both for different reasons, but regular will always be the best in my opinion.

The craft cord stuff looks really bad with my alpha knots, they look so tiny! 3/10 do not recommend 🙁

personally i like it better because its easier to untie knots (I can be a perfectionist aaand I am not careful so I end up untying a lot) it looks great on bracelets. DMC has a good shine though

I use almost exclusively craft cord and crochet thread 😛. I tend to run my nail along strings as I knot without realizing it so I have issues with traditional embroidery floss splitting/breaking/tangling so some of my knots will end up looking bigger(due to the threads separating) or smaller even though my knot tension is consistent. It’s really just a matter of preference and what works with your individual style ☺️

The only thing I use craft cord for is the base strings in alphas. It doesn’t separate like embroidery floss does.

J&p is good but not as good as DMC if you use a convention of both threads you will realize that 1) the knots are the same size. 2) DMC is shiny while J&P its not. And 3) J&P color fades. I have a bracelet where I only used one J&P color and all the other colors were DMC the DMC still looks good while the J&P is quickly fading. This is not an issue for bracelets you dont use all the time or keychain. I found this string call Le Paon, its similar to J&P and its good so far. I haven't tested its color durability but it is a nice thread. You can find the company on Amazon and the cost is reasonable. I got a bag of 50 skeins for 5 dollars

I use the two strand thread for straight edges, because I don't like using nicer threads for it, but other than that it's terrible.
