Is there a special type of thread to use?

All the bracelets i make lose colour in the sun or in the sea. I prefer making ones you can tie on as they dont fall off as often as clasp ones or buttons, but these always get grubby so quick. Anyone have any tips? |😲

I don't think there's a way to avoid the fading. You could try looking for some kind of protective spray or something (like the waterproof spray people sometimes put on winter boots) and see if that helps

Or use crochet nylon thread 😛 it still fades but lasts 10x longer than embroidery floss

Also if you Untie your bracelets and throw them in a delicates bag and I to the washer they come out considerably bright not as bright as they were to begin with but brighter

I kinda like when bracelets soften and fade. To me it says that the people I make them for enjoy them so much that they don't want to take them off. But yeah, to clean the dirt, the delicates bag in the washer is a great idea, maybe even use that Woolite detergent for delicate clothing. Isn't that type of detergent suppose to prevent fading? Worth a try!

I was working at a camp this summer and all my bracelets got very dirty! When I came home I hand washed them with soap and water. After they dried, all the dirt was gone! I suppose that a delicates bag would work just as well if you don't want to go to the effort of hand washing your bracelets

The delicates bag just gets more dirty out from between the knots because it's being tossed around and aggravated by your washing machine. Hand washing work great though too I've used it lots
