I’m trying to get cleaner patterns with my alphas, but I’m noticing the finished bracelet is more elongated (circles look more like ovals). I’ve tried knotting super tight, super loose, and in between, but nothing seems to help. Suggestions?

Same thing keeps happening to me. There was this bubble pattern that I tried three times but all the bubbles looked like ovals.

its all about positioning your knots. whether you make them tight or loose, the pattern will look elongated if you arent positioning the knots correctly. focus on the first half of your knot, basically position it as high up as possible (or as close to the previous row as possible). then tie the second half to secure it, making sure it doesnt move while you do that. if you do that, your knots should end up closer together and your bracelet will look more like the pattern does. obviously, this takes practice. the knot structure of alphas is way different from normal patterns, so you have to learn how to knot to make sure the knots are positioned correctly. a sort of cheat to this is just to push up your rows of knots to get them in the right position. this is a quick and easy way to fix bracelets that arent knotted correctly, but you definitely shouldnt rely on that. again, just practice!! it takes time to learn how alpha patterns differ from normal patterns and how to master them. hope this helps. |

Srhamy this is crazy helpful! I’m MUCH more accustomed to normal patterns. When I decided to get better at alphas, I thought my knotting would translate a whole lot easier. I’ll continue to practice with placement in mind. Thank you!
