Starting bracelets...

Is there a rule of thumb for starting bracelets? Like, if you have "certain number" of threads, make one loop...another number make two? When doing my 8 strands, I just do one loop. I just started a 14 strand, though, and the beginning is a mess. Should I have made two loops?Any tips for starting complicated patterns so that they look good from the start? |

if i make one 20 or more strings, i tie them in 2 groups but i usually undo the big knot and braid the ends after i do a couple repetitions of the pattern

So do you just start the bracelet with looser knots if you do that? Maybe I am tying my knots too tightly?

yes, its usually easier if you tie looser knots at the beginning and bracelets tend to curl and not look nice if the knots are too tight

or you could start the bracelet about a quarter of an inch from the knot/knots at the top...that helps too...it is a little tricky though because you have to make sure the knots don't slide up the strings they are on but it is worth it...it looks good then🙂

I like to put my strings in the order the pattern says. Then I put the knot under the clip on my clipboard and I "snap" the strings into place so that way the beginning of my bracelets are always straight.

the clip board is a nice idea, I use a plastic box that I keep my string in and just close it with the knot on the inside of the box and then it helps keep the bracelet straight when I start.

Sometinmes, I put my strings inside of a wooden art easel. I just put it between the top and the part where you hold the paper and it does a nice job if you don't want it in your lap. 🙂

I'm making one pattern with around 22 strings and I used the bracelet buckle... it looks cool...

There are so many good ideas in this thread!!!Oh, I really want to try bracelet buckles. I couldn't find them at the store. However, I usually go in, get distracted by the thread, and forget everything else. That could be why. 😉 |
