So, Im fairly new to making bracelets. I used to make them in high school, but it was never anything more than a candy stripe or chevron. The last few months my bracelet quality has definitely improved, but I still feel like there is something I'm missing to be making perfect bracelets. My edges still aren't perfect. Better, but not perfect. And sometimes my knots are wonky and I don't know why. Like knot tension, for example, everything I read or watch about knot tension says to pull the string down you're knotting on to, then do the knot with it right between and other two knots of your previous line. How tight do you pull down and is it that string that warps the bracelet for being too tight or is it the knot itself? Also, I usually watch Masha knots for tutorials and when I was watching her knot, she segments, which I don't do yet, but she pulls all her strings in her bracelet down when she knots. Should I be doing that as well instead of just the one I'm knotting on to? Someone please help!

Personally, I have found that practice and consistently making bracelets resolves the issue. Knot tension is very relative and different for everyone! I’ve found that it’s more about consistency of how tight you are tying the knots. It took me a long time to figure out the tightness of my knots. I’ve found that by changing my knitting technique, I’ve been able to get very consistent knots. I kn

You don’t have to pull them all down, just pull the one you are knotting on. 😇

Wow. What is going on today. ..... I knot using only my thumb and index finger. Personally, I knot very close to the base of my bracelet. This gives me more control with placement and tightness. (I’m about to get very technical here cause I’m a pre vet major and needed to take anatomy 😄 ) while holding the string I’m knotting on to, I take the string im knotting with and pull the knot up only using my thumb and distal phalanx of my index finger (basically the first indent of my finger) .

It really does come down to experimenting and practicing. If you want your bracelets to look good then take the time to experiment and figure out what works for you, and what doesn't. Everyone knots differently, so what works for some may not work for someone else, there is no right or wrong way. Work slow, and take the time to unpick knots if they aren't in a position/placement you are happy with. Maybe try practicing different tensions, do some bracelets with tight knots, others with looser knots and see which looks best and go with that. Try practicing your edges by maybe holding the base string (or string you are knotting onto) straight down, see if that helps. Some people find if they make slightly looser knots on the edges, then the edges comes out better. Some people also find pulling the base string in the direction the knot is going helps them to get cleaner looking bracelets. |
