What to do if your base string snaps

Hi guys! I am making an alpha and one of my base strings just snapped. Do any of yall have any suggestions

I would just tape a new base string to the surface right behind where the old one snapped, then continue knotting over it like normal for a few rows. Once it feels secure you can take the tape off and cut the extra string hanging off the back.

This trick only works if you have a significant portion of the pattern done already, but If you don't have tape like I frequently don't tie a knot of embroidery floss or whatever you are knotting with on to a safety pin and pin the safety pin high enough onto your bracelet, that you can incorporate the string that way!
