The same thing just happened to me... and I agree with all of the other users that have commented the same thing that it is discouraging. This was my first pattern submission to BB and my pattern isn’t even a completely new style like @arf820 ‘s shaped bracelet. It was a basic plaid style so I don’t know what problem anyone could have had with it. I’m only writing this here because I read this forum a few days ago (I enjoy going through the forums and helping people) and when I saw the rating I wanted to add to the forum here. But at least someone else rated my pattern a 5 so my ratings a 3.5 instead of a 1.

@bluedog123 i’m sorry that happened to you! it may have just been an accident by the user but even so it can be really frustrating when people rate perfectly good patterns 1 star. i just went ahead and rated your pattern 5 stars, hopefully that helped boost the rating on your pattern!

Thank you so much @arf820!! It wouldn’t have bothered me enough to write about if it hadn’t been for me previously seeing this thread but If it’s the same person doing this (especially on purpose) I just wanted more users to know that this is a reoccurring issue.

I personally don't think the ratings should exist. If you dislike a pattern, surely just not giving love or not adding it to your to-do's is enough. Not everyone has to do every single pattern. There's 30k+ patterns on this site, people can find another one they prefer.

If someone has criticism of a pattern (like one of mine) then the comments are there for a reason, just give me some constructive comments on how I could improve it.

@robyn_knot I agree it would be better to just have loves like on the website then you don’t have to like a pattern but there isn’t a way to dislike it

Similar here. Except it's because I got into an argument with a person 1 month ago and now they're coming back rating all of my stuff 1 star because of it lol.

@TESTERBEN that’s such a rude thing for the person to do. Even if you ignore it it’s annoying how petty people are. Especially since you have such nice patterns 👍

@robyn_knot exactly! i personally don’t see why ratings have to exist at all to be honest. that way we can get rid of 1 star ratings altogether without having to bombard @Admin with reports of users rating a bunch of our patterns 1 star. for that reason, we should be able to love patterns both on the app and the website. people can choose whether to love or not love a pattern. they don’t have a choice to “dislike” a pattern (like how it would be if there was both a “dislike” button in addition to the “love” button). however without a rating system people can choose to rate a pattern badly. and that’s where these problems stem from. i don’t think it is possible to prevent rude comments from people who don’t like our patterns. but it is possible to prevent future problems with “rage rating” if there is no rating system to begin with.

Thank you everyone who has replied to this post! I would not have thought that so many would reply. It turns out that there are many different people who have a tendency of giving one star ratings. You no longer need to send me the users you had issues with. I don't think there's really a pattern.

But I can advice you to make talk to the person in a kind way and be open. I had two people messaging me complaining about each other but none of them were willing to end their fight. There's a saying "the wiser head gives in" and I think that is a good thing to keep in mind at least for minor conflicts like someone giving bad ratings to your patterns. In cases like these you should both be the wiser head. It's not worth it to hold a grudge.

@robyn_knot I agree that removing the rating option is a good idea! It would make this community centred more around positivity. The loves a pattern has are in my opinion a lot more reliable of how popular a pattern is because a pattern with only one rating can have a 100% rating while one with a lot more ratings but also a lot more loves can have a lower rating just due to the fact that the pattern has a much higher exposure and people are more likely to vote on it.

Another issue with ratings that has been discussed a lot is that many people accidentally give low ratings and that you can't take back or change ratings. Low ratings no matter if on purpose or not are often the reason for conflicts that can often last for a while because you can't really avoid users on here because you can't block them (which I think makes sense because it would be impractical if you for example couldn't see a certain pattern because the creator blocked you.).

I like that in this community when someone says "I've received a bad rating from one person" there are ten people who will say "I'll give you a good rating". After all this website is about friendship!

Omg I hate when that happens! This one user gave me a one star rating because they just hated me for some reason🤷‍♀️

i don't think that the rating system should be removed altogether, but we should definitely be able to fix our rating if we accidentally rate something incorrectly.

Yes! I think it’d be great if the rating option was replaced with a report button, because there is no reason for a pattern to be rated one star. And people don’t really need constructive criticism on the pattern because it was already made and can’t be edited.

@isabellarm I agree a report button would be pretty useful but I personally think constructive criticism can be really helpful too. Not for this specific pattern but for future patterns you might create. I often ask for it when I see that someone gave me a one star rating because I want to understand.
