variegated colors in the pattern generator

hey! i think it would be cool if there was a way to put in variegated colors while generating a pattern or a variation. that way we can see beforehand what the pattern would look like with variegated/multicolored string. @Admin would this be possible?

Thank you @arf820 @stacey_135 for the suggestion, it's already been asked a few times, and it's in our todo list. But we now have a lot of tasks with a higher priority, so I'm not completely sure when I can get to that 🙁.
