Why are alpha patterns always one string off?

Every time I do an alpha no matter which pattern I choose it is always one string off is that just a glitch that never got patched or is that intentional ?

The number of strings is the base strings + the lead string. I agree that it's a bit confusing at first when you're used to normals

Yeah, I agree it can get confusing but it is in fact intentional! It’s just the number of base strings plus the string you knit with (leading string)
