I'm not sure if anyone else is bothered by this, but it drives me insane how many of the questions on here are answered in the FAQs. Like i'm pretty sure at least 80% of them could be solved if someone took two seconds to read them. there's even a message at the top of the screen that says "If you'd like to ask a question, please out check the FAQ section first. It may already have an answer for you." with an ACTUAL LINK to the FAQs. I think it would be really helpful and save everyone the time and energy if that message was in super big font and bright red or smth so people can't miss it.

I'm with you, but speaking from painful and long experience, I can tell you that it doesn't matter.Personal anecdote incoming: I used to run a forum rpg for roughly 9 years and there was a rules page and underneath it was the form to sign up. The amount of signups I got that absolutely did not play by the rules was probably 90%. So then I added a "Please read the rules before signing up" at the top. Nothing. I made it big, red and bold. Nothing. So then I made a game of it and added a last rule that was "If your application doesn't start with the word 'applepie', it will be declined. Please just prove to me that you at least read the rules." I copy pasted several lines of "READ THE RULES" on top so it really caught your eye. Almost no applepies for me. I was a teen/young adult back then and I'm old and jaded and work in tech. The amount of times the same few IT guys come to me and ask for help is staggering. And everytime I tell them: "Have you looked in the manual I gave you? Because the answer to your problem is on the very first page." And everytime they get embarrassed and tell me no, and yet everytime, the same dudes show up again without having looked into the manual.... I think we as a species have just developed FAQ / Manual / Rules blindness. And it's no wonder, we're bombarded with "Accept the TOS here" and "Have you read the User Agreement there". But yeah, maybe it's still worth trying to make it flashier. Maybe it will make me less resigned if it actually helps haha |
