I posted two different patterns, and both of them were flagged as already having been made, so I submitted mine as variations. When I looked at the original pattern, it used two colors while mine used 6. I feel like it should only be accepted as a variation if the same number of colors are used and the same pattern of the colors to begin with is the same. Both of my bracelets look nothing like the original pattern, but the knot pattern is the same, so it shows as a duplicate. So frustrating.

If the same order of knots exists, then there's no reason to recreate it. Variations already allow you to change the colors of the individual strings, so you can just submit it there. If you want to create a similar pattern, you could ask the creator for permission to make something inspired by their work.

Patterns get recognised as a variation, if they have the exact same knotting structure. They're still the same pattern, just different colours have been used. Patterns can look quite different depending on the colours used, but they are still the same pattern, even if the amount of colours is different, because the knots are the same.

I wish I could send pictures of the different patterns. If you didn’t look at the knot pattern, you wouldn’t be able to tell they were the same pattern. I know it counts them as a variation, but the variations don’t show up on the app, Only on the website. I understand different colors used counting as a variation, but when you change the number of colors and the order of the colors, it really changes the appearance. I wish there was a way to appeal for it to be a different pattern and have someone review it and determine if it looks different enough to be a new pattern.

When you are new to bracelets, it can be confusing how
https://www.braceletbook.com/patterns/normal/81/
https://www.braceletbook.com/variations/normal/342305/
https://www.braceletbook.com/variations/normal/342109/
https://www.braceletbook.com/variations/normal/340510/
https://www.braceletbook.com/variations/normal/336230/
can all be the same pattern, but with more experience, you will be able to tell with just one look that they are the same pattern.

Some patterns just have a big variability and I think that is very cool. You only need to remember one knotting structure and then you can tie many different bracelets that all look very different from each other.

Imagine every variation that uses a different amount of colours would be counted as a new pattern. The website would quickly gain way too many patterns and be difficult to navigate.

It seems like your main issue is that variations are not shown on the app. The reason for that is that the app is a limited version of the website that is designed to be used on the go. It misses some features that the website has, but its main goal is to provide easy accessibility when you're on your phone. More features might be added to the app in the future, but keeping the website running.

If you look at the patterns where you added variations, there were also variations similar to yours before yours and I don't think the users complained either.

I added a variation to #28287
https://www.braceletbook.com/variations/normal/18864/
before you added yours

If anything, it would be my pattern 😉
And there is also this variation by @aliciaball which again looks very different

On pattern #22802 there is a variation by @hanka4
https://www.braceletbook.com/variations/normal/23547/
which was also added before yours

Simple patterns like that often have a big variety like that and different users come up with them independently from each other. It happens and it will happen again. I understand that it can be frustrating.

I mean I understand that they’re the same pattern, but it’s hard to visualize the different possibilities especially when the original pattern has only two colors. I just wish we could see the variations on the app, either as variations or as separate patterns.

I understand that. Lots of people wish for variations on the app.

While they aren't on the app, you can also use the website on your phone. There you can also access the variations.
