I just sent a message to admin letting him know to take your patterns down. It might take a while until admin takes them down, because he is really busy recently.

To answer your question: you can always message a moderator to request any of your content to be taken down.

Braceletbook is a worldwide public sharing site. The original patterns you post are automatically copyrighted to you, the creator. But in turn, publishing patterns publicly like this inherently makes them available to other people all over the world. It's impossible to police the entire world.

Since this is a free website, and a place for sharing, the content is freely available for anyone to use for their own purposes, to knot, to give away or to sell finished pieces. I know that's not what you want to hear. But the finished crafts are, after all, the handmade product of skill and experience, as well as the crafter's personal property since the all the supplies needed to make such products were purchased by them... ie thread, clasps, keychains, scissors, clipboards etc. The published free pattern itself was never purchased, it's just available for free. If you never wanted your patterns shared in this way, you probably shouldn't have posted them publicly in the first place.

The Guidelines on BB advise users not to republish other people's patterns or copyrighted content. Publishing original patterns here automatically grants you a copyright. This gives the copyright holder the authority to have copied and/or republished patterns removed from the site and other sites as well. I myself have filled out many forms to remove copied patterns of mine from Etsy, Freepik, and other sites where people were selling/distributing my actual pattern as their own creation without my permission. I'm thankful to have the copyright to patterns I've posted. I personally don't mind that people sell their finished crafts using my patterns, I love seeing my designs made into actual products, that's why I shared them! I just don't want them republished or sold as digital designs. There's a big difference between intellectual property and handmade crafts. If I didn't buy the strings or spend hours knotting the bracelet, I don't think it's my business what happens to the bracelet next, whether it's given to a friend or sold to a stranger. The purchased materials were never mine, and I gave away the pattern for free by posting it here. My ownership is the design, not the product. Creating patterns doesn't offer the same benefits as collecting royalties on a song.

It's a lot like downloading free plans to build a doghouse. You buy the lumber, tools and supplies, you spend hours measuring, cutting and building the house. It looks great, but one day you don't need it anymore, so you decide to give it away or sell it. The website where you found the plans can't legally tell you what you can and can't do with your finished doghouse. But they can take legal action if you copy and sell the same plans for a profit, redistribute, or publish the plans on other sites.

Of course you can have your patterns removed from BB, but I just wanted to let you know if they get deleted, you'll probably lose your copyrights. Since your patterns are popular and have been available for a long time, lots of people probably have them printed or downloaded, photographs probably exist all over instagram and pinterest etc. Like it or not, your patterns are already out there and there's nothing you can do about it. Currently you have control over the patterns themselves, just not what people do with finished and knotted bracelets, even if they make money off them. It's likely people will continue to sell bracelets of your patterns whether or not they're still posted on Braceletbook because pictures are already available elsewhere, and it's easy to copy stuff. Deleting from your account doesn't delete them from existence.

If there's no links back to your originals, that could open the door for anyone to copy or publish them somewhere else and you'll have no rights and no way to prove they were yours first. Maybe you've already copyrighted them somewhere else, and you could still do this on certain sites, but I'm not sure if you can backdate a second copyright. And if someone is selling your pattern, whoever has the oldest proof is the one who owns it.

If you want to make money on your own patterns, you could always rework them into digital downloads for cross stitch or loom bead patterns and sell them on Etsy or similar sites. Or invest the time and money into making physical products to sell yourself.

Anyway, you might not want to to lose your copyrights because then you'll have even less control. 😊
