Ok so I don't think new moderators are still getting selected but there's a rule about moderators being 17+ but how would you know that they're 17+? They could easily be lying. Even if there's a thing about showing an ID or something you don't know if it's actually theirs.

I could be wrong about this, but its possible that IDs were asked for after I became a mod.
While my ID wasn't asked for, it's possible others' were. I've never asked about it, actually! Haha.

@Tikilishi I don't know if they actually make you show IDs, but wouldn't it be the only way to prove that any moderator is 17+?

Maybe there's other ways to get a general idea of how old someone is, but yea, and ID is probably the best way!

I also did not need to show my ID. I think it is based mainly on trust.

Moderators need to be trustworthy, reliable and mature. Only if someone seems to have these qualities, they are suggested to become a mod by one of the moderators. Someone with these qualities is unlikely to lie about their age. When selecting a new moderator, all mods vote on whether the person should become a mod or not. If something was off about a user, I'm sure that at least one of the mods would have noticed and would have brought it up to be discussed.

Another thing to take into consideration is that only long-time users are selected to become moderators. If the age they said they were was inconsistent over time, it can be assumed that they are not truthful about it.

I'm pretty new to the site so maybe I'm absolutely mistaken about this, but I would assume that this rule is first and foremost to protect minors from any harmful pictures that might be uploaded. So lying about their age would harm the lying user themself, and I would hope they know this and see no reason to do so.
