Just yesterday I finished a twilight book cover pattern. It’s pretty small, so it looks a bit distorted, which I assumed would be fine. I got a notification back that it was declined by a VERY popular moderator saying it was distorted and am I suuuuurrreee I want to submit it like this? I put in the review notes that yea, it’s done. Submitted again. Got a notification back AGAIN that it was declined (by the same person) and this time it was because they wanted to see the reference. By the tags and even just the pattern, I thought it was pretty obvious, but okay. So I resubmitted with the link to the book on Amazon. AGAIN IT WAS DECLINED. BY THE SAME PERSON. This time, they asked if I could edit MY PATTERN to look more like the reference. At this point, I was DONE. This person had the audacity to ask me to change my own pattern “to look more like the reference.” Um, no. I did the colors for a reason, if someone making it wants to change it, okay. But I’m not changing it.
If anyone wants the pattern if it never gets accepted, message me and I’ll post it on insta. If it does get accepted, I’ll post a comment on this.

heya! i'd just like to say as someone that design patterns myself, the moderators assess all patterns (from the guidelines) based on whether they are 'nice-looking' and 'valuable to the community.' they may not have felt that many people would end up making your pattern and this can be frustrating especially when you have put a lot of time and work into it but it means that the site stays full of high quality designs. however there is nothing stopping you from making it yourself while it is still in the generator 🙂

All patterns are reviewed with the same standards.

I have not seen your pattern, but I would have followed the same review process.

If I had not recognized what the pattern is or if I was unsure, I would have asked what the pattern depicts too. With book covers there might be differences between different editions, so it is good to know which book cover a pattern depicts in order to properly review it.

Your other patterns look great I think! Was the declined pattern a similar style? If it used silhouettes like your other pattern, maybe you could tweak those shapes a little to make them more recognizable.

If you used "alpha from image", your pattern might look "unfinished" due to that. We have two tutorials on tweaking alpha patterns, if you want to understand that scenario better.

If you disagree with a moderator about their decline message, here are a few things you can do
- message them privately
- explain in the review notes why you have made the choices you made/that the choices you made were intentional, this will help the moderator understand what you are going for with your pattern
- ask for a more specific decline message. Which aspects seem unfinished? What changes would the moderator suggest?

some mods are a lot more harsh. it’s good that they try to help you make the best patterns possible, but if something is a deliberate creative choice they need to stop and maybe wait for another mod to see it.
