Displaying ages

Is it necessary to display people's ages on here? I know this is probably the safest possible site for young children to be on the internet, but it still feels like there's a big child protection issue on a site where people can (and do) post their age, name, location and lots of other information about themselves. Again, I can't imagine that there are many malicious people on braceletbook, and the fact that you have to level up to gain features like sending messages probably filters out the worst, but it still worries me that there are SO many very young children on this site and that the site displays their ages to everyone. Perhaps certain information should only show up once you're friends with someone? Or give people a very obvious option that would hide their age from their profile.
I know I probably sound like an old fart, but considering the number of people on this site who are >16, I feel like perhaps more should be done to anonymise accounts and hide ages.

Age is an option for your profile, it is not required.

If you go to 'Edit profile' on your profile page, you just leave 'Date of birth' blank.

Also, when you first created your account, your profile is completely blank.

Users choose to enter what info they want displayed on their profile.

Lots of people also have ages, that are not actual their age like -1000, 666, 420 and other numbers like that. Anyone can write anything about themselves on their profile that is not necessarily true.

Even when removing the option to add your age to your bio, people would probably still write it into the free text part and making sure that nobody puts an age there would probably be a very big task that seems close to impossible.

That’s the parent(s)/ guardian(s) responsibility to teach kids to be safe online. Not the owner of this site.
Just like it’s not Facebook’s job to make sure people don’t post where they live.

Also like halokiwi said a lot of people put a fake one. Same as the country spot, only half of people actually put in a real country.

Thank you everyone! You're definitely right that there is no way to prevent people putting their ages on their profiles and, as I said before, I really can't imagine that anything untoward would actually happen on this site. I think I'm just a bit paranoid from my own experiences of being a young teenager on the internet, but a lot has changed in the last 10 or so years and as @crafter83 said, it's not the mods responsability to teach people online safety.

That’s fair. I remember panicking the first time I got a friend request on here 😂
