my idea is to have a little dropdown for a knot that you want to change, and this would be for normal patterns. I think it would make the process quicker and easier for new people to the website to use the generator. 🙂

In the interactive generator apart from left-clicking the knots you want to change, you can also right-click them. This makes the knots change in the opposite order as left-clicking. This means that you can change any knot to any other knot type in just one or two clicks instead of up to four. Does this help? Is this what you meant?

Are you using the "normal" page of the normal pattern generator or the "interactive normal" page?

On the "normal" one there are buttons on the top right that you can press for certain knot types, but you need to have your cursor in the right line and know where you are in the pattern. This generally is not super beginner friendly.

In the "interactive normal" one, you can click directly on the knots to change them as I described in my previous reply. This is a lot more beginner friendly.

I don't see it being super useful. The interactive generator seems to be pretty intuitive to me. You click on the individual knots and they change. You just continue clicking until you have the knot you want. After not too long it will be intuitive which knot follows after which and then you never need to click more than twice to get to the knot you want.

If there was a sort of pop-up menu whenever you hover over a knot that lets you select different knot types, you would only need one knot, but I don't think it would be faster.

Anything that you learn new, will take some time, but I can assure you, most people figured it out.
