Why is it "Bracelet KING?"

Hi! The topmost rank on the site is "Bracelet King." However, a lot of users have written things like "Bracelet Queen" or something different on their bio. Is it possible to change the name of the rank to something like "Bracelet Master" or just something less gender-specific? I think that would be a lot more inclusive. ❤️

Yes!! I totally agree. This is one of the top things to change on the Admin’s to-do list. The gender-neutral title that is being considered is “Bracelet Royalty” ❤️

If you go down the inclusive route for the title, I'd suggest not using 'master.'

We've had a similar discussion in software land because a lot of code gets stored under 'master' and that has issues.

@rachaelf so that is a different issue, that’s because on git the master branch refers to master/slave branches. Same with hard drives, etc. Master when referring to skill level is an entirely different etymology. Apprentice, journeyman, master, etc.

So yeah in that context it has seriously problematic connotations, but in the context of a craft or trade skill it does not.

@Genki That's why I called it a "similar" discussion, not "the same" discussion. Etymology is fascinating though, isn't it? 🙂

It was made this way because the site was created when this wasn’t a issue. For example I watch a show that’s been running for 20+ years. The host always said “come on in guys.”
This past week he asked the cast and they asked to change it to “come on in.”

All this to say I’m glad culture is changing to more neutral terms, it just will take time to get some things in place

I love Survivor and I was actually kind of disappointed by that because it’s such an iconic line but I totally agree with bracelet master

I like the idea of royalty which makes it more like a group, master as it is like a skill, or being able to choose king/queen/something neutral.

To keep along the same lines as 'Bracelet King', 'Bracelet Royalty' sounds like a good alternative. 'Bracelet Master' may be less so because some people with the rank of Bracelet King don't view themselves as masters of the craft yet.
