would there be a way to put numbers at the top of the pattern, mainly alphas, so like instead of just the numbers on the sides? that would be super nice for big alphas cuz it’s like “dang what if i counted the knots wrong” and it would make them way easier to start. just a suggestion, thanks!

ooh thats a great idea! however, on all alpha patterns, there are dimensions at the top. for example, on pattern #80907, the dimensions are 17x21, and since there are numbers on the side of the grid, we can tell that there are 21 rows. that means that there are 17 base strings 😊

oh yeah, i mean like, if you’re working on an alpha and it’s like 50 base strings, and you need to make 36 white knots and then make a black knot on the 37th, you don’t have to count all 37. you can just see on the grid, which number you start the black on @stormii

that’s a good idea! maybe what you can do is print out the pattern and write the numbers at the top of the grid so then you can make your own version of this since it isn’t a feature yet.

@danielle_3 yeah i would, but i don’t have a colored printer, so i take a ss on my phone and then i’m like squinting to read the knots. and lol i once tried to do that off my phone. didn’t work to save my life.

I have been working on a black and white alpha pattern #48559 and ran into this problem there are so many knots of the same color or so many changes at times that is was really had to keep track of everything with the available options so I spent a couple weeks going row by row and counting each one to make a pattern that went more like row29: 42b, 5w,7b,1w,21b ect. I did that for every row so it definitely took some time to do with having to double check everything but it has made it easier to follow. Hopefully at some point the pattern can give the number of knots per color to go with the other pattern reading methods.

@ lucass_ Thank you! You have no idea lol I think I probably counted everything at least six times but it has been worth it. Unfortunately it is taking me forever to get the hanging done but as long as I finish it before Christmas I will be happy 😊

@lucass_ Thank you, I think my nephew will love it so I am slowly getting it done, but I had never worked with black before and it is so much harder to see if I have done one or two knots hahaha never realized how hard it was to remember something so simple. I have found some different ways to tell though so I have really learned a lot from doing the pattern.
