some people have begun to notice that braceletbook has been reposting photos onto pinterest without giving credit. as most of you probably know, when you click a pin it takes you to a website. instead of linking the exact link that would be the photo, they simply link the pattern. therefore, photos are being posted without permission and credit. while whoever posts these photos is not claiming these photos as their own, it isn’t fair that these photos are being shared to 145k pinterest followers without due credit. someone viewing this on their page, not understanding what the platform is, would simply assume that the braceletbook account made that bracelet. while some accounts watermark their photos, it’s very few and it seems that watermarked photos are rarely being posted. braceletbook needs to do something about this, whether it be linking the exact url to the photo being shared, or writing “diamond bracelet made by @ (username)”. i have been scrolling through their account, and checking if any unwatermarked photos are uploaded by users with their instagram handle mentioned in their profile and contacting through there. also, because the braceletbook account has a lot of followers and engagement (10m monthly views to be exact) they are getting attention for creations that they didn’t make, while the rightful owners of the intellectual property have maybe only 10 or 15 followers on pinterest aren’t getting as much attention. though i personally have not been affected in terms of my photos being posted, but some of my close online friends have, and they didn’t even know in the first place that their photos were posted.

I wonder if this allows them to do that. Below is copied from the terms of use

User Content and Copyright
Only the creators of patterns, photos, videos and tutorials are allowed to add them.

Any user content (material uploaded by users such as patterns, photos etc) belongs to the respective user. The original creator of the content has the copyright to it.

If a pattern is posted by a user that is not the original creator, the real author decides what is going to happen with that pattern. If the author does not like distribution of his/her patterns this way, then it will be deleted from this site and the user posting it will be punished with temporary or permanent ban.

Any content published to the site may be used by the site admins/moderators for promotional purposes.

I agree it would be the right thing to do to ask for credit, I’m just saying they technically don’t have to

I don’t have social media but this does sound like a problem, and it’s seems kinda messed up. U should tag some super moderators! So they can tell admin about this! Or just strait up tag admin!

@Yellowfang yeah, unfortunately it’s allowed because of their terms of use, something i didn’t notice when originally posting. sorry for the misunderstanding, though credit is deserved in my opinion, they’re not obligated to do so.

I know that those ‘pattern of the day’ posts are self generating from the hot patterns/videos/pictures etc section but @Admin this seems like something that might be ‘easy’ to add in a ______ by the user ________ line?

Thank you @hottamales @crafter83 @Yellowfang @amwatson @Margaron. I'm actually looking into this right now. We're actually going to disable the automated posting, and will be doing this by hand starting today 🙂. We'll also start being more careful on how we make the posts, so that we will be giving proper credit to the authors 🙂.

@Admin @Margaron

You might want to ask if they want credit first. I know that’s a pain; but I think several users, especially younger ones, might not be comfortable with their username shown on Pinterest.
