I think name and word patterns were usually accepted before as long as there was some kind of design or intricacy in the background. If you tried to make a pattern with the word hi on it, but you didn’t make the background have any kind of design, then I don’t think it would be accepted. I could be wrong though because I’m not a mod.

What @oceanknot says is correct

As long as a pattern is not a simple word pattern or a personalized name pattern it's acceptable. To make a word pattern acceptable you need a complex background, complex decoration or both.
