I feel like it would make it a lot easier if the grid was made up of more rectangular shapes because when you’re making a bracelet, the knots will usually be more rectangular so the finished bracelet may turn out different from the picture.

I don't think having rectangular grids will affect the actual bracelet that much. Usually, after a lot of practice you start to get square, box knots. Also when creating an alpha pattern I think it would make the pattern look a little strange...
