Hello fellow bracelet makers! 🙂I am new to this site, and I am making an alpha for the first time. I am making a seven letter word, and I know that the word alone would make a very small bracelet. How should I estimate how many rows to put before and after? |

maybe look at pictures of other alpha bracelets with similar word length/ string amount

If you have square grid paper that works great! I used to draw alphas in math class all the time haha 🙂

Yeah before i use the site to add it (because it's hard to use on and iPhone 4s, fairly small screen and my PC doesn't work with the website) i use 1/10 inch graph paper you can get it off a site called print free graph paper and pick your size. I've discovered 1/10 inch is the best because each square is closest to the size of one knot and is more accurate for what the bracelet will look like 🙂

Also it's nice to have graph paper if you don't have access to the internet and want to make a pattern. You can actually use graph paper to make normal patterns too.... I find that easier than using the generators!

this is going to involve some math.if you've made alphas before, measure how many rows fit into a cm/inch. for my knots, 5 rows = 1 cm. you want a bracelet that's 13 cm long. 13*5 = 65. so your bracelet should be 65 rows long. your pattern is 40 rows long. 65-40 = 25. and you want the text centered, so you need to divide by 2. 25/2 = 12.5. you can either round up or down. so that's 12 or 13 rows on each side of your text. does that make sense? |

I always draw my alphas on graph paper before making them on the generator. I find it difficult to make alphas on the generator before I've already finalized the design on graph paper. 🙂
