For multi- colour alphas, you have to use a substitution method. So your strings underneath can be any colour you want, you won't see them. Then when you get to the part where you need to switch from your background colour, you pull the knotting string to the back and pull a new string forward. I like to knot my string onto the safety pin to anchor it. At this point you use your new string to knot, just like the background string. Make sure your new string 'traps' the old one behind it, otherwise you'll have a space in your bracelet. When it's time to switch back, pull the string to the back and pull the other one forward, 'trap' your string so you don't have any gaps and keep working like this 🙂

Theyre just loose until you use them in place of the main color string?

If you need more help with this, there is a tutorial in the tutorials section of the site that might help a lot 🙂
