In general as well, but specifically for a 6 string, 3 color bracelet, how much thread should I use? How much more thread would I need for a man's wrist vs. a small kid?

It really depends on the pattern, what endings/ties you do, how much of the colour is used and the wrist it's being made for. I do about a metre (not folded for loops) and I find that's enough for my bracelets however you may need less more more

for simple bracelets you can measure from the tip of your fingers to the shoulder, then double it, this is to make sure that when you fold the thread to make a loop, you'll have enough to tie all the knots. if someone has comparetively big wrists, adjust the lenght accordingly (I've had a friend who needed 23 cm of bracelet total,,,,, i added like 20 cm extra to be sure)

for kids they say from the tip of the finger to shoulder only once, so if you fold it its half their arm length, but I havent tried that myself so you might want to test one

if you're not sure, using too much string and having to cut the leftover bits is better than cutting them too short and having to add in new string ass you go. everyone knots differently so the first few times just go big and measure what you have left afterwards so you can compare

personally I find that between 100cm-120cm for most threads (so when you need to fold them for a loop, cut 200-240 cm) is my preferred lenght for a standard bracelet
