start simple. find an alpha that has at most 15 base strings and at most 2 or 3 colors. those patterns are always beginner friendly. also, follow masha knot’s videos on making alphas so that you learn how to switch colors. i recommend watching the flat alpha tutorial because it teaches you how to make your alphas not bumpy and it teaches you the straight edges technique. hope that helps! 🙂

okay i know how to do a name alpha bracelet and i want to get into more advanced patterns. what are the diagonal lines in patterns? is it adding string??

@chloknotz If I’m understanding your question correctly, the diagonal lines represent the string being pulled across the back of the bracelet when it’s not being used. If it’s confusing or distracting to you, you can always just make your alpha from the grid instead of the pattern diagram
