how do make a loop for an alpha, but straight. like how to people get it started in a straight line?

Are you talking about doing a loops and then not doing a triangle start before the bracelet?

If yes then you can use your working/background string as one of the base strings iff it is an odd number and you can make the loop then fan the strings out of each side of the loop and start the bracelet. Hope that is what you are talking about!
