Hello all! I've been making bracelets for a little while now (though I am still a beginner in the grand scheme of things - I just completed my first alpha!), but I'm new to the community, and I've noticed that others are seemingly able to knot more than I am. My main is I will run into a deep wrist pain in my right hand (dominant) that lasts a couple of days after I knot too much. Yesterday I was able to do 9 x 27 knots before the pain got so bad that I had to stop. It's not super bad pain (unless I'm knotting with it, then it hurts a lot), but it doesn't seem normal and it's really discouraging to have to stop for a couple days to heal after only doing a little bit.My search has come up with basically nothing. I've only seen like, one forum post about someone talking about pain while knotting. I don't think I'm pulling the thread too tight - my bracelets come out looking right, and for context, I've never even snapped a piece of embroidery floss while pulling. I'm just not a very strong person. I do knot a bit differently than I've seen in tutorials, and I kinda end up doing the exaggerated "4" motion that you see in picture tutorials. But I don't know if that's the cause, and I need to heal before I can try it out. I suppose what I'm asking could boil down to this: -Any tips to cope with wrist pain while you make bracelets? -Do others even get wrist pain while they knot? -Is there something obvious that I'm doing wrong that results in said wrist pain? Thank you all for reading, sorry for the long-winded post! This is just really concerning me, I don't want to have to give up doing this over wrist pain and I'm kinda anxious I'll have to. Any help is really appreciated! |

I don’t know if there is anything wrong with the way your knotting when I teach my friends I teach them with the exaggerated 4 but maybe you could try adjusting where you put your bracelet how you hold it down that might help

Maybe you should try out different positions while knotting? Like if you normally tape your bracelet and knot sitting at a table, try knotting with a safety pin on a pillow or vise versa. I usually get pain in my wrists or back if I'm knotting in an unnatural position for a long time. If this doesn't work you could try taking more frequent breaks while knotting. Hope this helps!

Sorry for the late reply everyone! Just wanted to chime in and thank you guys for the advice - tomorrow, if my wrist if feeling up to it, I'm gunna move my set-up to my desk (I've previously been working on a clipboard while sitting on my bed), and start setting a timer so I remember to take breaks more frequently. I've also been trying to be more diligent about my wrist stretches, so hopefully that'll help as well. One last question though - how often I should take breaks/how long should the breaks last for? Again, thank you guys sm for all your help!

I've had a similar problem! When my wrist started hurting I just stopped for the day and continued after about 24 hours had passed, but you might want to take longer breaks if your pain is that bad. I know it can be frustrating when you want to work on projects but remember to take care of yourself!

You should probably take breaks tye moment your wrist starts to hurt, so you don't push it's limit. I would say maybe ever 30/40 minutes should be good, and then just fake a small break to exercise your wrist a bit,and maybe do something else as well

Take breaks every time your wrist feels tense and hurts a little so that way it won’t build up and get worse

I would suggest maybe don't work on the bracelet for too long at a time maybe taking breaks every now and then.

I think someone said this before, but try different knotting positions with your hands to see which one makes your hand hurt less

So I write a lot, I write in a journal I type on my computer and I knot and that same thing happens to me sometimes. For me it is just over working my dominant hand and I injured it when i was little and it never fully healed so but you may just be working it a lot and it’s not used to it. To get rid of the pain i stop for a minute I roll my wrist around and if it hurts really bad I put it on the heating pad for awhile. Hope this helped
