I just started making alphas and I’m using the straight edges technique and the flat alpha technique i just can seem to understand how to make the patter look good (all my string is the same thickness)

Many people forget the second bf or fb knot at the edge. Make sure you always make two bf or fb knots right after each other because you are replacing two knots.

maybe the issue is your knot tension. make sure your first knot is tightly snug against the knots above it and gently secure it with the second knot. with alphas though, try to keep your knot tension a little looser than you would with a normal pattern. i sometimes find that since i have tight knot tension, my tension can get very inconsistent when i have to switch colors especially with the flat alpha technique. maybe just play around with your tension a little bit with scrap thread or something and see what is best for you. hope that helps! 🙂

I definitely suggest tying looser knots so the bracelet doesn’t warp. I also use craft coord not embroidery floss, I find it doesn’t fray and works really well

the biggest mistake is knotting way too tight, make sure its not too loose or the background color will show up, the flat technique doesn't necessarily make your alphas straighter in my opinion, its all about the practice, so you will get better over time.
