On the right edge there's a straight edge anyways so you wouldn't have to add an extra string there but you would need to add on extra string on the left. In general the length of the edge string just has to be as long as you want the bracelet to be plus the ties because you only ever knot onto it, not with it. It's like the base strings in an alpha.
