I think what you mean is segment knotting, the idea to it is knotting in segments to speed up the process. For example take #24520 (dovetail) it has diamonds, you can knot these diamonds easily in segments, rather than do row by row. Segment knotting can only be used though in normals that aren’t 1,2,1,2 patterns.
