how do u know if a pattern can be segment knotted?

Normally, you should see lines where one string does many knots. In the chevron, i can see that the yellow string does 3/4 forward knots on the right. 1212 patterns, which are patterns that pretty much solely use fb and bf knots, normally are near impossible or just impossible to segment knot. Alphas can never be segment knotted.

#1 which is the candystripe, shows that one string does forward knots on the rest, and does that for the rest of the bracelet.

There’s not a great way to explain this however most patterns can be segment knotted. Masha knots has a tutorial on how to segment knot

Yeah, @Clairaland is right, there are a lot of tutorials & videos on here about segment knotting. Segment knotting is mostly just not doing the pattern line by line, but doing it in groups, usually arrows & chevrons. Hope this helps.

As long as there aren't too many fb and bf knots all normal patterns can be segment knotted.
