sure! so basically with segment knotting, you find diagonal lines or “segments” of knots you can make all at once. for example, when segment knotting a candystripe, you’d do just rows of forward knots. with a chevron you’d do forward knots from the left to the middle and then backward knots from the right to the middle with any knot to connect the two halves. it takes practice but once you get it it is so fun. i would recommend not only watching masha knot’s and alex’s innovation’s segment knotting tutorials but also watching and following their pattern tutorials. because they segment knot the pattern, you’ll get a really good feel for how segment knotting works. if you just watch them explain how to segment knot, you will not magically know how to segment knot. it takes time, patience and trial and error. also, draw in your segments. that way you will know when to knot which string to where. hope that helps! 🙂

How I learned segment knotting was when I did a couple of teardrop loops. They sort of set you up into segments to begin with, so I found it really simple to start segment knotting from there. As a beginner, I recommend patterns with lots of straight lines, such as a plaid pattern
